Up in Smoke by T.M. Frazier5/23/2023 (Ok I am editing here cause I feel obligated to warn people since I just finished Perversion Triology and it was God Awful piece of crap so not those either). I love King series and every book written by T.M. I am really mad t feeling Lucy on this one. I have listened to 463 audiobooks and have never felt the need to write a negative review about a narrator.until now. Listen to Duke.”seriously Sarrrrruuuuhhh”. The book is great, but I just can’t believe how much I hate listening to this. I have never been this appalled by narration of a well known authors book than I am with this.because of Lucy. I mean, Lucy Rivers has never been a favorite, in fact, I don’t even remember her other than I know I have listened to other books. The men’s honestly sounded like someone with speech disabilities at times.I mean Duke.are you kidding? I just don’t understand. She sounded so fake and over exaggerated in her female voice. I honestly had the hardest time listening to it. What in the world happened to the narration? Troy was great but Lucy Rivers.wth? I have listened to several other books she narrated but this was absolutely horrible narration by her. This is the story of the perfect worlds Sam and Sadie build, the imperfect world they live in, and of everything that comes after success: Money. They borrow money, beg favors, and, before even graduating college, they have created their first blockbuster, Ichigo: a game where players can escape the confines of a body and the betrayals of a heart, and where death means nothing more than a chance to restart and play again. For a moment, she pretends she hasn’t heard him, but then, she turns, and a game begins: a legendary collaboration that will launch them to stardom. Fikry-a glorious and immersive novel about two childhood friends, once estranged, who reunite as adults to create video games, finding an intimacy in digital worlds that eludes them in their real lives. “One of the best books I’ve ever read.” John Greenįrom the New York Times best-selling author of The Storied Life of A. Poldark book 15/22/2023 Romance, intrigue, betrayal, and one of the most heart-breaking love triangles in modern fiction ensue as Ross falls in love with the charming Demelza and tries to build a better world for her and their children whilst fighting his arch-enemy, the swaggering and ruthless financier, George Warleggan. The saga, which spans the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries, follows the life of the brooding, principled Ross Poldark a young man who returns from the American Revolutionary War to find his father dead, his copper mine failing and his childhood sweetheart, the beautiful Elizabeth Chynoweth, engaged to his cousin. The bestselling Poldark series is loved across the world for its compulsive blend of romance, drama, unforgettable characters and beautifully evocative portrayal of Cornwall. No wonder poor Albert had wanted to escape to a mission in the jungle he had not been cut out to be a landlord. Even the gravel was thin on the ground and the drive in worse shape than the country lane leading up from Keynsham. ‘What now, Captain?’ His groom tilted his head to inspect the clouds and Alan handed him the reins and jumped down, avoiding a muddy rut. The news that Albert Curtis had dropped dead in church in the middle of his sermon after recovering from a bout of fever was doubly unwelcome-now Alan would have to renegotiate the purchase with whoever inherited the house. The only problem was that he had no idea from whom. The estate had seen better days and with any luck would see them again, but first he would have to buy the place. It suited his mood and it certainly suited the gloom of the sooty stone and unkempt lawn of Hollywell House. It was fitting that each mile passed on the road from Bath had added a shade of grey to the clouds. Alan Rothwell, Lord Ravenscar, drew his team of black purebreds to a stop on the uneven drive of Hollywell House. Felix ever after cover5/22/2023 Sure, I know we love a good story that makes us cry and ache and feel pain and stories about pain are valid, but I think more space can be made for stories that makes us feel good because a character feels good and finds and experiences joy. I think one of the best parts about reading is reading about characters that you come to love and care for be happy. Find the introduction post for Pride Month at The Quiet Pond here. The first publisher on her list, Avon, quickly purchased the novel and arranged an initial 500,000 print run. Rather than follow the advice of the rejection letters and rewrite the novel, she instead submitted it to paperback publishers. The Flame and the Flower was rejected by agents and hardcover publishers, who deemed it as "too long" at 600 pages. The novel revolutionized mainstream publishing, featuring an epic historical romance with a strong heroine and impassioned sex scenes. Some Girls Are by Courtney Summers5/21/2023 So many women are at the center of these stories. You get to the point where you’re listening to true crime and wondering: “How well do we serve victims? What is the personal cost of telling those stories? What’s the emotional impact?” We’re consuming acts of violence as a form of entertainment, especially as it relates to female pain. I love the true-crime category it’s so committed to the search for truth and justice.Īnd then Serial came out. What made you decide to integrate a true-crime podcast into Sadie? I had to talk to Summers about this intriguing storytelling structure, books for dark times, and whether she prefers cake or pie. The central question of whether Sadie will find her sister’s killer is paired with another question: Will the podcast’s team catch up with her before she does, and if they do, will it be too late? The story is told in alternating chapters that follow the eponymous protagonist as she vanishes from her hometown to seek revenge on the man who killed her little sister, and a true-crime podcast, The Girls, that’s investigating Sadie’s disappearance. In many ways, Courtney Summers’s latest book, Sadie (out on September 4), keeps with the rest of her YA oeuvre: It’s a dark, provocative story about childhood sexual assault, murder, revenge, flawed people, and the sexism with which society views-and harms-women and girls.
